Fiscally sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) since 2019 and named after the Argentine-born and New York raised composer Astor Piazzolla, who mentored our Artistic Director, Leonardo Suarez-Paz, the PIAZZOLLA100 project established itself as a driving force of the genre’s preservation and evolution.
In 2025, the project was transformed into PIAZZOLLA100: The New York Tango Festival - a unique, multidisciplinary celebration of the tango culture - a hub for tango music, dance, literature, poetry, visual art and cinema and a home for the entire global tango community to learn, showcase and further the tango genre in a collaborative and creative manner that promotes the freedom of expression.
The festival’s vision was shaped by the multigenerational legacy of Leonardo Suarez-Paz, who leads the festival’s creatives in sharing the entire Argentine tango culture, from its diverse heritages and rich history to its 100-year connection to New York City, which ignited the nuevo tango revolution.
Experience tango culture like never before in our 2nd edition of the PIAZZOLLA100 Festival - JUNE 18-21 in New York City.

We continue over 100 years and 4 generations of tango legacy which traces back from Leonardo Suarez-Paz to Gabino Ezeiza, an Afro-Argentine poet and 'payador,' credited with composing some of the earliest tangos and milongas

Leonardo grew up in "the cradle of tango" during Argentina's military dictatorship, when tango was almost forbidden. His family home became a creative space for poets, singers, dancers and musicians to express feely and Astor became Leonardo's mentor

One of the pillars of tango violin and the 'nuevo tango' style, Leonardo's father, Fernando, shared over a decade of touring and 18 recordings with Astor Piazzolla as a member of his famous Quinteto Piazzolla.

Leonardo was a dancer & violinist in:
The Mariano Mores Show
TangoX2
Perfumes de Tango
Violin Soloist:
Horacio Salgan
Tango Argentino (Broadway)
Forever Tango (Broadway)
and many many others...
