Nuevo Tango Arts is rooted in 4 generations of unparalleled tango legacy, and a 20-year experience producing award-winning works that combine tango music, dance, visual art, cinema, poetry, and influences from jazz, classical, and contemporary genres. Today, our groundbreaking music, dance, multidisciplinary and theatrical productions are redefining tango as a daring, complex, and evolving art form of the 21st century.
Our mission is to preserve the legacy and advance the evolution of tango and its relationship with jazz, classical, and world genres, while uniting people globally through art and culture.
Our vision pairs artistic excellence and innovation with tango's inherent capacity to connect people, promote freedom of expression, and enrich our collective cultural heritage.
Leonardo Suarez-Paz, billed by the press as “tango royalty” (All About Jazz, UK), is a Buenos Aires native and a Latin GRAMMY AWARD nominee who carries a 100-year family legacy in tango and was mentored by the revolutionary composer Astor Piazzolla.
Leonardo played as a soloist with Mariano Mores, Horacio Salgan, Atilio Stampone, Osvaldo Berlingieri, in Broadway's Forever Tango and Tango Argentino, danced and played in Tangox2 and Perfumes de Tango. He starred with Julio Boca’s Ballet Argentino, the New York City Opera, Placido Domingo, Ruben Blades, Carlos Franzetti, Patience Higgins, Jim Hall, Steve Kuhn, Savion Glover and Wynton Marsalis, who has called Leonardo a unique artist that "shows us how easily we can communicate across cultures if the desire and effort are there." - Wynton Marsalis
Today, Leonardo combines his unparalleled tango heritage with a vast experience as a violin soloist, vocalist, choreographer and composer across tango, jazz and classical genres to redefining tango for the 21st century while uniting people through its art and culture as the Artistic Director of Nuevo Tango Arts and the PIAZZOLLA100 Festival, co-directed by dancer-choreographer Olga Suarez-Paz.
