Featuring Leonardo Suarez Paz with Nuevo Tango Ensemble, Nuevo Tango Ballet & Multimedia with artwork by Lulú Michelli de Ferrer, Dedé Wolf, Pedro Firgari and footage of Astor Piazzolla in New York from our private archives
Leonardo Suarez Paz’s PIAZZOLLA 100: El Nuevo Tango is multidisciplinary & genre-redefining – a tango show for the new century. Leonardo Suarez-Paz, a multiple Latin Grammy Award nominee and “virtuoso extraordinaire” (Wynton Marsalis), shares his vision of tango by breathing new life into the stories he experienced while growing up alongside his mentor, Astor Piazzolla, the Argentine-born and New York-raised composer who revolutionized 21st-century music. A 4th generation tango musician, singer, dancer and composer, Leonardo demonstrates the genre as an evolving and emotionally moving art form.
Experience nuevo tango and its groundbreaking style of music and dance, “superb,” “harmonically sophisticated arrangements” (Gramophone, UK) and multimedia. The cast features Grammy-winning soloists with Nuevo Tango Ensemble, members of Cuartetango string quartet and Nuevo Tango Ballet. The show has sold out the 2600-seat Centro Cultural Kirchner in Buenos Aires, NYU Skirball for the Preforming Arts and Lincoln Center's Summer for the City in New York.
Nuevo Tango Arts and Leonardo Suarez Paz’s PIAZZOLLA100 celebrate multiple cultural heritages and the rich cultural milieu that gave birth to the genre of tango and continues to fuel its evolution today. Nuevo Tango is a living art form which speaks across cultures and generations. These are our stories....
